Event Description

Good afternoon.

Your DRIE-SWO Executive is pleased to announce our Spring Symposium, being held on Thursday, June 6, 2024. The theme for this event is:

                                "Threat Face-Off; Climate Change vs Cyber".

As always, this event is free for DRIE-SWO (and any DRIE chapter) members.

We will again be meeting at the offices of the Ontario Mutual Insurance Association (OMIA) at 350 Pinebush Road in Cambridge, Ontario, just off Highway #401. There is plenty of free parking on site and there will be coffee, refreshments and lunch provided, as in the past.

                                                           Identifying the risks attendees are most concerned
                                                           with and their challenges with risk strategies.

                                                           Emily Vis, Manager, Industry Partnerships
                                                           Mohawk College
                                                           Emily will start with some background (a short
                                                           research review, Mohawk College, IDEAWORKS
                                                           and the CCCM) & then plunge into 
                                                           *  What / how will climate change impact business,
                                                           *  Brief review of relevant business info,     
                                                           *  The financial impacts and carbon pricing,
                                                           *  Sustainability and climate reporting,
                                                           *  Risk mitigation and planning, 
                                                           *  Key takeaways and to conclude, a Q&A
                                                               
Presentation Three          11:15 am    "Cyber Hacks, As Easy As Password123"
                                                           Keith Elliott - President and CEO
                                                           Reed Research
                                                           Keith will discuss cyber threats and exposures which
                                                           are currently top of mind for businesses, in particular
                                                           addressing changes in today's business models and
                                                           structure which includes such exposures as working
                                                           from home models, bringing your own device and the
                                                           "Internet of Things".

Presentation Four              1:15 pm    "An Operational Resilience Template/Model"
                                                            (including the morning's Heat Map results) 
                                                            Tom Shebrek, AVP Business Continuity,
                                                            Crisis and Operational Risk Management -
                                                            Canadian Tire Corporation
                                                            Tom will discuss Canadian Tire Corporation's cutting
                                                            edge business resilience model. Tom's passion is to
                                                            see all businesses engage in business resilience and
                                                            risk management plans. Therefore he has been
                                                            sharing with various industries the model he/his team
                                                            have created for improved business resilience overall. 

Panel Discussion              2:15 pm     "Dissecting Climate & Cyber Risk"
                                                            Moderator:  Jim Loyer
                                                            Panelists:    Keith Elliot, Tom Shebrek, Emily Vis
                                                            The panel will wade into the dual topics from today's
                                                            symposium based on personal research and opinions
                                                            combined with the results from earlier presentations
                                                            and discussions.
